Initially, terrorist acts were one of the methods used to express political dissent., Today—especially after their proliferation in Syria and Iraq they have become a subject of serious consideration under different legal approaches. Given that deterring a suicide attacker from engaging in an act that leads them to embrace death through criminal measures is difficult, examining the underlying factors that shape such actions and the logic governing the perpetrator's behavior becomes crucial for preventing these acts. The present paper is designed based on the question of whether the actions of suicide attackers can be explained through criminological theories. In addressing this question, it should be noted that, generally speaking—and subject to the acceptance of criminal logic—suicide perpetrators adhere to their own specific rationale. Therefore, criminological perspectives can rationally explain their actions and, based on a non-punitive approach, prevent such behaviors. Suicidal behaviors can be explained both by the perpetrator's individual and internal factors and by environmental factors, among which multiple motivational factors framed as organizational, ideological, individual, etc.—may facilitate the transition to criminal action. After examining the historical context of suicide terrorism this note investigates the underlying factors contributing to suicidal acts.
